Florida man stabs ex-wifeâs dog to death, calls to tell her, report states
A Florida man drove to his ex-wife’s house, killed her dog, then called to tell her, according to investigators.
The Palm Beach County (Fla.) Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to a “heartbreaking” incident in West Palm Beach last week.
Dispatched to the residence on a report of a dog killed, deputies found a 3 1/2-year-old pit-bull named “Luna” dead in the yard with an apparent injury at the bottom of its neck.
An arrest report says the dog was “bleeding and the dog deceased but still warm,” according to CBS12 in Palm Beach.
A necropsy was performed on the dog, determining the cause of death as a severed jugular vein, causing the dog to bleed to death.
The homeowner told investigators he believed his wife’s ex-husband had killed the dog.
Additional investigation determined 43-year-old Delmin Echeverria had driven to the home when no one was present and stabbed the dog in the neck, then called his ex-wife to tell her the dog was dead. The woman found the dog deceased on the side of the residence when she returned home later that day.
Echeverria was arrested and charged with aggravated animal cruelty, burglary of a dwelling while armed, and criminal mischief.
As of Monday afternoon, he remained in the Palm Beach County Detention Center. Although bond for the Palm Beach County charges was set at $13,000, he is being held on an unspecified warrant from another agency.
